Short answer: use WPC doors where water reaches the door, such as bathrooms, wash areas and doors facing rain. Use decorative flush doors for bedrooms, living rooms and offices, where the finish matters most. Most homes in coastal Odisha are best served by both.
What each door is
A flush door has a flat face built over an inner core and finished with a decorative surface. It gives a clean, modern look and comes in many finishes.
A WPC door is made of wood polymer composite: wood fibre bound with plastic. It does not soak up water the way timber does, which is why it suits wet areas.
Side by side
| WPC door | Decorative flush door | |
|---|---|---|
| Water and humidity | Made for wet areas | Keep away from standing water |
| Look | Clean, plainer finishes | Wide choice of decorative finishes |
| Best rooms | Bathroom, toilet, wash area, store room | Bedroom, living room, office, cabin |
| Typical market price, 7×3 ft, Bhubaneswar | About ₹2,534 | About ₹2,513 |
Why it matters near the coast
From Balasore to Ganjam, homes live with humid air, heavy monsoon rain and cyclone seasons. Doors that take in moisture swell, stick and lose their finish. With the price gap between WPC and flush doors now small, there is little reason to put a moisture-sensitive door in a wet area.
A simple plan for a typical house
- Bathrooms and toilets: WPC door with a WPC frame
- Bedrooms and living room: decorative flush doors
- Balcony or back door: add a mosquito shield netted door for air without insects
